Multi-tasking a Blazer

From time-to-time we can all stand to make a wardrobe just a little more interesting.  Here are a couple of thoughts in accomplishing just that.  Try pairing the blazer with a bright pant, say, red or blue, for an easy statement-making look. Add a lightweight knit in a solid color or stripe, like this one, for $19.95 (H&M). And if you're feeling really bold, you can pull off the nautical trend with a tee, like this one for $12.95 (H&M), available in blue, red, or green. Or just wear any old shirt — pretty much any one will work. Except a polo shirt. Never a polo under a blazer.
Gucci for Japan

Gucci has introduced a limited edition charity bracelet to support earthquake relief efforts in Japan. All proceeds from sales of the bracelet will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society to support victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March.

Featuring a white-red-white web that recalls the colors of the Japanese flag, the bracelet carries a medal with a message that reads, “Gucci loves you.” Detailing includes non-allergenic white Calf leather on the lining and trim as well as a buckle in the shape of the House’s iconic horsebit. The one-size bracelet offers three adjustable sizes and retails for $100.

The bracelet will debut at Gucci stores throughout Japan, followed by worldwide distribution in Gucci flagship stores across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

The $20 MTM Shirt from Modern Tailor

Modern Tailor, the affordable custom design shop, is running a $20 made-to-measure shirt special for new customers to get custom made shirts (additional design features cost extra).  The fabric options are “Black” or “Blue Oxford,” both single ply 70-80 thread count.  We recommend that, unless you are a server at a restaurant and it’s part of the uniform, don’t order the black shirt.  The company suggests measuring a well-fitting shirt that you already own.  The fabric is a little thin (which also shouldn’t be a surprise).   I would definitely recommend this as an option for anyone looking for a great fitting shirt on a budget.

The Art of Face-to-Face Conversation

In today's tech-driven world far too many of us have forgotten the basics of being able to strike up a decent conversation with a "real" person.  Sure we have lots of "friends" and "connections" on facebook and other social networks, but real one-on-one interaction is lacking.
Mastering the art of real life conversation will not only score you more invitations, but could lead to solid career moves. So leave that Blackberry or Iphone home and get to talking.
Strictly Business (Casual)

Even when the environment does not require corporate attire, a gentleman should still look like he is capable of convening a business meeting.  An elegant sport coat will add a polished bridge that connects both formal & informal occasions.

While this jacket is from Brooks Brothers, $548, you can probably pull off the same look with a similar jacket from J.C. Penny.

IPhone 5 Expected to Ship in Fall

Apple is expected to ship the iPhone 5 this fall according to new reports, meaning the iPhone 4 will need to hold its ground against the competition for an unprecedented amount of time between refreshes.

A series of reports today support the rumor that a new iPhone will not be launched at Apple's
developer conference in June, as it been every year since the first-generation debuted in 2007.

The idea that the iPhone 4 still has legs is supported by reports that new panels for the phone are still being produced, and sales of the still popular smartphone, which accounted for more than 40 percent of Apple sales for the last quarter of 2010, are remaining steady.

The iPhone 5 is rumored look similar to its predecessor but feature a faster processor, a better antenna, an expanded screen, and a much improved 8-megapixel camera.

Choosing The Right Shirt

With shirts, it's all about fit and variety.
The number-one rule: a good fit is paramount. More often than not, your shirt will be flying solo without a jacket, tie or sweater, so give adventurous colors or patterns a shot. Lots of guys favor button-down collars—they're guaranteed to stay neat throughout the day. When it comes to polos, choose a refined one over something super casual.
One of our favorite secret weapons? Wrinkle-free shirts. The best ones come out of the dryer looking like they came straight from the cleaners.

Getting your skin ready for the Spring

Many of us tend to hibernate all winter long, making our sun exposure pretty limited. So, with the first sign of sunny and warmer days, comes the call for a daily moisturizer upgrade. Here are a few that not only moisturize but protect!
It’s important not to forget that with the increase in body temperature, due to warmer weather, our bodies naturally begin to produce more oil from our sweat glands.  So, now is a great time to add an exfoliating product to your collection or a good after shave balm and moisturizer. Here are three great ones!
Get noticed, Stand out

It can be hard to get noticed sometimes. With more and more competition in the workforce, coupled with easier access to low-cost, high-style clothing, standing out with a “power suit” just doesn’t cut it anymore. The sharp-dressed man gets noticed amongst the crowd because he is different.

Today, what the uber-gentlemen is not just well-dressed – lots of people are well-dressed nowadays – but impeccably well-dressed with an element of flair.

Preview: J.Crew Fall 2011

While the weather across the nation is warming up, J.Crew and its head of men's design, Frank Muytjens, debuted their fall collection recently and further extended their authority as one of the most storied brands of American style. The iconic images of Great Depression served as inspiration for the workwear-dominated outfits. Muytjens combined the functional elements and fabrics of the era with a more severe and cleaner silhouette. The look is modern yet rustic, using the likes of Harris Tweed and slim-cut denim and pops of flannel and navy.

How to get the look? Besides shopping at J.Crew: Dress up your denim. Roll up the jeans. Add a boot. And take in that peacoat just a hair.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept

Thinking about a new hatchback? You might want to wait a second. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept ($TBA) is the Tri-Star's newest compact concept, but doesn't skimp on the goodies — like a BlueEFFICIENCY 2.0L four-cylinder good for 210 hp, a dual-clutch transmission, a radar-based collision detection system, Adaptive Brake Assist, and museum-worthy looks. Here's to hoping they actually, you know, make the damn thing.

Summer Essential: Purple Gingham Slim Fit Shirt

The perfect compliment to a light grey summer suit, this purple gingham (that's the proper name for the table cloth check patern) slim fit shirt from is a summer essential.  This shirt features a modest spread collar and woven cotton construction make this a very light, very pleasant warm weather shirt.

Weekend Makeover

The weekend is your time to relax, but no one wants to look like they have no swag. We've pulled a real guy off the street and gave him a style make over.

Here's how we did it:

1. It doesn't get any cooler than a cardigan right now. Seriously—every store has them this spring. The look is disheveled, so don't fasten every button.
2. We're not saying you need to abandon denim. Just think beyond it. Our favorite alternative right now? Bold chinos that pop with color.
3. Boat shoes are back. This all-black pair is built for the street, not the dock.
