2011 Mac Book Pro

With a raft of updates including the ultra-fast Thunderbolt I/O port technology (a snub at USB 3.0), the new MacBook Pros hardly qualify as an average mid-cycle refresh. The 15″ and 17″ MacBook Pros ($1,799-$2,499) are endowed with up to 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processors with Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology capable of cranking up to 3.4GHz – making these latest variants up to 2x faster than their predecessors. On the graphics end, AMD Radeon processors with 256MB-1GB of RAM yield up to 3x faster graphics for blazing Call of Duty or Photoshop sessions. Not to be left out the updated 13″ MacBook Pro ($1,199-$1,499) also jumps to a dual-core Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with 2.3GHz-2.7GHz speeds and Intel HD graphics. Along with the 10GBps hybrid Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay port, Apple has also added a full-screen HD video widescreen FaceTime camera, up to 8GB of RAM and a choice of hard drives ranging from 256MB to 750GB and 128MB-512MB solid-state drives. One thing that hasn’t changed: the inevitable arghs from recent buyers.

Jump Rope Like a Boxer

Boxers jump rope for a reason. It's one of the most effective stamina-building activities around. But it can also be frustrating. That's why we put together a program to help you sharpen your skills, no matter how uncoordinated you may be.
How to do It
Do one jump. That's it. Next, do two sets of two jumps. Then three sets of three. Continue this progression until you can skip for 10 sets of 10, or you've gone for 15 to 20 minutes. Whenever you miss a jump, go back and repeat the previous level. Do this workout four times a week. If you do it right, you will be skipping rope like a boxer for three-minute rounds ina week or two.
The Rules
  • Only jump high enough to clear the rope.
  • Keep your knees soft as you jump. Land on the balls of your feet.
  • Use your wrists, not your whole arm, to control the rope.
  • Begin your jump when the rope is just above eye level.
  • Let the rope brush the floor lightly.

Warby Parker Introduces 14 New Styles

Eyewear company Warby Parker has just introduced 14 new styles to its catalogue of extra-affordable classic frames. For 2011, the company’s aim was to stay true to their vintage aesthetic, but go with bolder shapes and intriguing colors to add a modern twist. The frames in the new collection ($95), most of which are available for both men and women, come in a variety of colors and include anti-reflective prescription lenses. The company conveniently offers free shipping, returns, and home try-ons of up to five different frames. Despite the low price point, Warby Parker is also now using teflon-coated screws and five-barrel hinges for longer lasting construction. If you prefer a slightly vintage look, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with the company’s variety of styles, colors, and a price that beats even the chain stores.

Calvin Klein 2011: New York Fashion Week

Italo Zucchelli, the talented and very creative Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection Men’s, is known for using innovative fabrics, such as the foam used in bike seats, to make clothes in the famed house’s signature minimalist style.
He continued to innovate in his inventive show on Sunday—but this time not just with fabrics. He proposed a new silhouette for trousers: full, baggy pants that were refreshing after so many seasons of severe fitted trousers. They looked luxurious and made for an interesting silhouette when paired with fitted suit jackets.

It's a bit intimidating, we know, but if you can tie your shoes, you can master the bow tie. The trickiest part is pushing the looped end through the back of the knot at the end. This is one of the best videos on the web that we've found that  illustrates how to achieve the proper knot.

Watch it.  Practice, and get to tying.

A Great Belt for the Weekend

This Double Ring Suede Belt ($100) from Steve & Co. is an excellent option to have on hand for weekends. It’s more casual than the standbys you use for work, but thanks to the use of high quality suede, the belt easily avoids crossing the threshold of flag-football-harness-turned-frat-boy-fashion-staple. Available in classic brown as well as black, navy, and a bolder teal, slide one on when the closing bell rings, grab a drink, and stop acting like the weekend’s just a distraction from that pile of work left on your desk.
    A "Minibar for the Mind"

"Minibar for the Mind," is described as a "midnight feast of intellect, inspirations and ideas."
Contents include a box of 250 conversation starters, a volume of columns written by the faculty at The School of Life, "Reading Prescriptions" designed to evoke moods of relaxation or seduction and a notebook and pencil set.
The set costs $56 (suggesting, perhaps, that minibars are extortionate whatever you put in them).

    Phillip Lim S/S 2011

Phillip Lim's show notes were prefaced by the following: "The Bougie Rocker—'they say he was cocky, he said he was alive."

Lim's men's collections are exquisite—possibly too much so at times. But they're refreshing to see in the world of New York menswear, which has largely hewed of late to the gruff, guy's-guy school of workmanly standards. Compared with the competition, the Lim boys looked like peacocking visitors from Planet Stardust. "Take me to your leader," they might say. And would you look at that? Sitting front-row, it's Kanye West.
    The 2011 Chrysler 200

Finally pumping new products into the pipeline after a few years’ hiatus, Chrysler will be rolling out a refreshed mid-size sedan for 2011 called the Chrysler 200.  The 200 will replace the Sebring and is expected to cost around $19,200 and get 31 mpg on the hwy.  The 200 was introduced during Super Bowl 45 in a glitzy new ad starring Eminem.

The Land Rover Defender X-Tech Edition

A real guy truck and a decidedly anti soccer mom vehicle, the limited edition Land Rover Defender X-Tech is available in a silver three-door Defender 90 (about $40,000) or olive-green five-door Defender 110 format. Both editions are powered by a Land Rover’s beloved torque-rich 2.4 lite common-rail diesel engine and features contrasting Santorini Black finished roof, wheel arches, and matching 16″ black saw-tooth wheels. The entire package is finished off with an ebony scheme interior with leather touches.

    Raf Simons F/W 2011

Raf Simons re-invigorates a man's wardrobe with bold colors and the proportions of the pieces. These are clothes that are modern, but not in that freaky, "please look at me" fashion-victim way. Instead, they are modern in the true sense; whether it is a classic like a duffel coat or camel hair coat or hiking boots or a fair isle sweater that he stretches out.

Just In Time for Valentines Day....Pink Mo'
